Seldom does a side lose a match by this size of margin and yet on reflection consider the result may so easily have been the reverse.

Nomads lost the toss and WGP decided to bat first on a dubious looking pitch. Nomads were one man short and fielding first made it difficult to locate the missing man or replace him which was a double pity as we had a keen 12th man. The missing man was significant. Wilston Vincent has dropped out before at a late stage but on this occassion had spoken to the Match Manager at 11.00am confirming he had the directions and would be there on time! Wil was supposed to open the bowling with Sajjad and bat number 5. He is also quite the best Nomads fielder which, inview of what happened, was a serious loss.

In the event veteran Oliver Croom-Johnson opened with Sajjad and while the pacy Sajjad struggled with his direction Oliver should have had a string of early wickets starting with his first ball.

Oliver's utter frustration was added to when in mid over the sole of his boot parted company with its host.  Oliver retired and Andy Smith completed the over and immediately took a wicket caught by Fahad this time also in the covers. Then he  had the lucky slogger Hill  caught  by Rupert Style, followed quickly with another for a duck this time  caught by Evans-Gordon. Meanwhile Alastair Evans-Gordon bowled Hendo  for a duck and trapped Darr lbw also for a duck. WGP were now 70-5 despite a host of dropped catches.

The normally excellent and agile fielder Fahad Raja dropped a sitter at point giving the left handed opener Hill the first of several lives. Fahad's was to be the first of 11 dropped or misjudged catches matched by several missed chances behind the stumps.

However one was yet to prove crucial. The President parried instead of grasping a slip chance wide to his right. The batsman Harris was on ten at the time, his next chance was on 80 when Andy Smith spilled a mid wicket boundary catch of the hapless Oliver.

The skipper rotated his four front line bowlers  and Shawl who beat the bat frequently in his subsequent short spells clean bowled E Lazaczuk for 11, 137-6 off 20 overs. Harris and M Lazarijk then set about Nomads bowling adding 100 quickly off ten overs before Harris retired on 100.

Without Wil Vincent Nomads had to find another ten overs and althougth both Daryn Williams and young debutant Freddy Fearnley created some chances the tail added with Matthew Lararczuk another 100 runs off the last ten overs. In between the carnage  Oliver had a consolation wicket trapping 'Deano' Allen-Turner lbw for 20 and Alastair Evans-Gordon bowled Fearnley for 1.

Windsor Great Park finished on a massive 327-9 having been 50-4 and 70-5 scoring 200 runs off the second 20 overs. Had Nomads held their catches the innings may have been over for a mere 100 runs certainly no more then 150. Had Wil Vincent played, even less!

After a great tea  Rupert Style and Shahzeb Mohammed  opened the batting. Nomads needed to get a solid base, a century from a top order batsmen and some fierce hitting from Sajjad and Alastair if we were to get close. Disaster struck with the third ball after a Style single when young E Lazarczuk got a straight ball to climb tall on Shahzeb who could only parry the ball which ballooned up for a simple catch. His father once scored 499 in a 1st class match sadly shahzeb's contribution was agolden duck. 1-1 was not the start we wanted.

Fahad started well but then mishit a long hop to mid on instead of into the wide open  mid wicket spaces,17-2. Andy Smith and Rupert counter attacked adding 30 whereupon Andy was adjudjed lbw with an inswinging half volley. Alastair Evans-Gordon then swung merrily until he slashed hard and third slip, the tallest member of the WGP side by far, held a great catch at full stretch one handed above his head. Nomads were now 60-4.

Sajjad joined Rupert and the two had a productive stand of 48 before Sajjad hit a mighty shot towards the wide mid wicket boundary only for Ben Harris to take the catch and before falling over the boundary threw the ball up in the air.  Long on had run round quickly and he took the catch. Sajjad was out to a brilliant piece of fielding and his robust cameo was at an end. Nomads were now 108-5 in contrast to WGP's 70-5!

However in stark contrast to WGP's last five wickets which had produced 257 Nomads were to add but 12 to the score as Croom-Johnson,Williams and Debbie Curtis fell all bowled for a duck!  Young Freddy Fearnley joined Rupert Style and these two added seven, indeed there was speculation that Rupert may reach a well deserved fifty. Alas! Rupert wisely declined an invitation to run a single from Freddy only to wander rather casually outside his crease generally observing all around him. The fielder seized the moment and threw down the stumps at the bowlers end and so well positioned was the umpire Charles Fellow-Smith that he had no hesitation in giving Rupert run out. More comedy and farce!

The President blocked impenetrably for an over but then Freddy threw caution to the winds and was bowled having a mighty  swing across the line. Nomads were all out 120.

Being the end of the season WGP were having a party and they had much to celebrate with such an emphatic win by 207 runs. In days of yore Nomads would have felt obliged indeed would have warmed to the responsibility of drinking back the fixture.  By the early hours doubtless John Nagenda would have issued challenges which the opposition would have had to accept  and thus the fixture renewed. Well this year most Nomads left after one pint leaving Charles Fellows-Smith and his assessor and a host of WGP cricketers,  ladies and supporters partying. Hopefully we will be invited to return and reverse this appalling result.

Nomads dropped or misjudged 11 catches, WGP dropped 1.

Nomads recorded four ducks, WGP recorded three ducks.
