                    Terblanch takes five

A fine spell of quick seam bowling from Delaray Terblanch plus some guile from Joe Ireland secured victory for Nomads over Kensington on a glorious sunny afternoon in the attractive setting of Mill Hill village's ground.Late September and not a stray leaf on the pitch.

However this was a game that was keenly contested for Kensington's bowlers had removed Nomads powerful top order for 165 and only a productive last wicket unbeaten partnership of 26 somewhat runless for a while, took Nomads to the respectable total of 202, albeit for a few more overs than was planned.

Lascelles,Terblanch and Ireland had all done the hard work only to squander the opportunity of a big innings and Jose Walters threatened to tear the attack to pieces when cleaned bowled for 23! Indeed the 67 run partnership of Lascelles and Terblanch had looked to be the basis of a large total. Tahir Saeed for Kensington was unlucky to be rewarded with only one wicket for a fine spell whereas Tabby Khan was somewhat fortunate to take three.Yet five wickets for Marshall and Douglas saw the mid and lower order innings succumb for a mere 40 runs.

This total required Kensington to score slightly in excess of 5 an over against an elderly fielding side with but one fielder with a serious throw. Indeed we had three wicket keepers in the side.

After a splendid tea provided by Keith Alexander Kensington made steady progress against Terblanch and While until Tim Keleher was trapped lbw. Another 20 was quickly added with the introduction of the local Chris Baldwin which should have put confidence into Kensington hearts of securing victory. Then a flurry of wickets followed two to Terblanch and two to Joe Ireland from catches in the deep taken by Lascelles and Alexander,76-5.

The replacement of Terblanch by Blumberg did little to raise the run rate and then San Gore took on the one Nomad fielder with a throw and was run out despite a spectacular dive, 109-6. At the other end a short spell from Croomers was followed by more of Ireland. Terblanch replaced Blumberg and took the wickets of Rohan Ghosh and Thomson,123-8.  Mitra played Terblanch confidently but then was deceived at the other end by a flighted full toss from Ireland  and was bowled. Tabby Khan throwing caution to the winds smote Ireland and then Terblanch for a series of boundary blows while Will Douglas  nursing a badly bruised forearm was dogedly defending at the other end. While replaced Ireland with three overs to go and with a draw looking the likely result finally trapped Douglas lbw. Nomads had won with 5 more balls to go.

Earlier Keith Alexander fielding at silly mid on without a helmet took a fearful blow on the forehead but survived holding a huge bag of ice to his bruised forehead and still lives a day later !

In contrast to the three previous games Nomads were 12 on the day which since Babs Odulawe failed to appear became the required eleven. Kensington who were two short at the start as a result of injuries suffered the day before made eleven with the assistance of former Nomads tourist and Mill Hill Village cricketer Chris Baldwin and the late arrival perchance of Rohan Ghosh.

Both sides enjoyed the post match drinking on a brilliant autumn evening with thanks to Cobra Beer,Delaray's jugs and the club bar. Much appreciation must go to Mrs Sue Baldwin MHVCC Secretary for the hire of the ground and looking after us on the day and for Keith Alexander's fulsome fare at tea.

Kensington skipper Tim Keleher awarded the Cobra Man of the Match to Delaray Terblanch and Nomads skipper awarded the KCC Man of the Match to Tabby Khan who grinned from ear to ear.
