Nomads draw despite fireworks from Blackburn & Style

Nomads played out an exciting draw at the pretty ground of Roydon on Sunday. Under blue skies Roydon skipper won the toss and elected to bat and his side posted 224-3 in 46 overs despite Robbie Blackburn bowling with electric pace at the start of the innings.  Tom Brockton took 2-32 with Ormiston taking the other wicket, although expensive.  Roydon supremo Geoff Pond hit a gritty 80 odd not out at the top of the order but it was 'Deano' Sanderson with a quick fire 63 that assisted his side to their declaration.

In reply Nomads lost Saj Ayub early but Brockton and Style rebuilt the innings and when Style was dismissed just shy of a deserved 50 Robbie Blackburn joined the Nomads skipper. Blackburn struck the ball to all parts of the ground but was then caught and bowled by the impressive off-spin of Brakkeflat for 45.  Brockton then was bowled for 61 having an awful slog at the experienced Roydon seamer.

The Nomads lost momentum in the face of an ever increasing run rate (and defensive field settings), Smith, Ormiston and Dixon perished in the attempt of quick runs and Croom Johnson / Morris saw the side to a comfortable draw at 198-7.

As ever the side retired to the local pub, The New Inn' who laid on a lavish spread and on a warm end of season evening both sides stayed out in the beer garden for quite some time.
