Vib Yadav inspires Nomads to a win at Tiddington

Despite rain lurking seeming around every corner Nomads managed to get in a full game(just) against our old friends at Tiddington CC. On a rain affected wicket Nomads won the toss and under cloudy skies selected to bat. With a well balanced side, and a mixture of youth and experience this was a formidable Nomads XI.

Brockton and Kandampully opened but Brockton picked out the incredibly reliable hands of the Tiddington skipper Pykett at extra cover and was dismissed early. Yadav and Kandampully then put on an enterprising stand of 50 in good time, before Kandampully was victim of the cruellest dismissal in cricket, run out backing up! Yadav hit a full blooded drive back at Matt Maule who stuck out a boot, ricocheting the cherry onto the base of middle stump and Kandampully was well short of his ground.

Enter Tom Marshall and in partnership with Yadav added close to 80 in quick time, Yadav most certainly the aggressor and Marshall happily playing second fiddle, the two Nomads young guns getting the side up to and over 150. Marshall perished in the quest for quick runs, picking out Matt Maul right on the line and long-off and Nomads then lost two more quick wickets (the experienced pair of Ormiston and Wycherley) and when Yadav was bowled trying to switch hit young Kitchen Nomads started to loose their way, 159-2 had become 167-5. However, Nomads batted deep and Chesham cricketer Chris Royals made a swashbuckling 24 not out and despite Page and Mishra both being dismissed (Page run out brilliantly by Pykett with a direct hit from long on) Nomads had amassed 220 from their 40 overs.

Tea was taken, and a splendid one it was, our thanks to Sue & Lesley for such a wonderful spread. Nomads took the field with fully bellies and confidence, 220 a tricky total to chase on a pitch that was certainly offering some assistance to both spin and seam. Yadav took the new cherry but it was Middlesex over 50s captain Andy Marshall who struck twice early in the innings, dismissing 1st XI players Maule (LBW) and Goodman (well caught at mid-off by Yadav), King was then bowled by Mishra’s quicker ball leaving Tiddington precariously placed at 57-3 from 15 overs.

The high calibre bowling was continued by Tom Marshall who took three key wickets in his spell including Jon Higgs, well taken by skipper Brockton diving to his left at backward point. Marshall also took the prize wicket of opposition captain Nick Pykett, spooning a delivery that looked to lift off a length and being easily caught by Mishra running in from mid-wicket.

Tiddington had collapsed to 93-6 but former professional golfer Patrick Knightley certainly “hit a long ball” and single handed got the home side back in the game smiting 70 in quick time including three massive 6s in an over off Div Mishra. However, the professor of cricket was now on and he had Knightley at 6s and 7s with his flighted deliveries (some call them lobs). Knightley picked out Ormiston and the innings subsided as they lost their final 4 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs. Page & Tom Marshall sharing 6 wickets with Andy Marshal and Div Mishra taking two a-piece. The home side bundled out for 187 with just over 2 overs remaining.

After the game Tiddington supplied their usual delicious post cricket winter-warmer, this time in the shape of a sumptuous Thai curry. With a number of the Nomads players staying locally a social evening was certainly enjoyed and our thanks to Tiddington CC for pulling out all the stops to ensure a full game was played. Likewise, thanks to Andy & Anton our Cherwell league umpires for the day.

Nomads still (amazingly) have a number of games remaining, if you wish to play pleasecontact the relevant match manager.
