Nomads fail again at Leigh
On a beautiful sunny Sunday we lost to Leigh with 3 balls to go mainly through a strange exhibition of full toss-itis and an unfortunate drop at Long Off.
Young Dhruv Raman hit 86,Jamie Lane an elegant 47 and Tom Brockton 45 but we finished some 20 runs below target.
After a sumptuous tea we took the field firly confident of containing the Leigh batting but although Robbie Backburn bowled with great gusto but little luck finishing with 1-13 off 8 Mike Plant had a nightmare lengthwise with a plethora of full tosses.Subsequently he took three wickets but Leigh had got off to aflying start.
We had a team of many wicket keepers and were short of a fifth bowler however Nomads debutant Umair Javid stepped up taking his first Nomads wicket and Fellows-Smith and Brockton bowled tidily so much so that the match became very exciting. Had we held that catch off skipper Kanna at Long Off we would probably have won but he went on to slog 45 valuable runs and we to cede the game with three more balls to go.
Nomads lingered long on a fine summer's evening sinking many an ale before departing this most hospitable of clubs.
