Nomads hang on to draw after valient chase

W hen the 9th wicket fell some 29 runs short of victory 12 years old Charlie Weeks strode to the wicket with what turned out to be 4.1 overs to go. He took guard outside his crease to the gleeful anticipation of the East Horsley wicket keeper but stoutly defended 13 balls from wrist spinner Drake.

Nomads thus drew a curious match which they should won comfortably.  Garlick finished with his best ever figures of 7-92  a generous reward for 14 overs of flighted filth.

Jeremy Lascelles won the toss and  invited East Horsley to bat . EH with an experimental order were soon 27-5 off 11 overs. Opener Proctor took advantage of a flurry of long hops from Middy Mann before hitting another one hard to Wakers who took a good catch reducing EH to 72-6.  This brought young Drake to the wicket to join the even younger Young and they put on 150 admirable runs with the help of some dropped catches untidy fielding and indifferent bowling from Nomads.       So well had these plundered nomads bowling in the latter stages EH were able to declare well before half time after 40 overs.

Wakers and Lascelles added 52 runs before Paul after much effort scooped the one bad ball Tim Drake bowled in an exemplary mean spell to square leg for a dolly.  this was a just reward for Wakers might have gone twice before. The innings spluttered along at an acceptable rate but Nomads kept giving their wickets away.Crucially Lascelles on 60 decided to turn the off spinner Garlick to leg for a single, missed and was lbw,122-4.

Lamb and Fanthorpe added 27 whereupon Charlton was adjudged lbw Garlick and then andy weeks attempting to hit his first ball to guildford ws held at slip,149-7. Blumberg joined Fanthorpe as another 17 runs were added before Mann replaced Fanny who had slogged Garlick straight to square leg.  Another 30 runs were added before Blumberg giving himself room smashed the leggie Drake straight to his Dad at mid off. Mann went shortly afterwards leaving the drama of the last few overs to Charlie Weeks and Max Keble-White.

So once again Nomads have drawn at East Horsley though there was nothing boring about this draw.
