Lane & Thorns romp home to victory

Nomads mustered 11 on the day but still fielded for two hours as nine.Luckily we had two wicket keepers otherwise extras may have been alot more as Karl had a spate of Harmison target trouble. As a result the combined efforts of Druv Tahir (Richmond CC 2nd XI) behind the stumps and Divraj Rawat(Punjab Restaurant Neal St) at long stop were needed to prevent an avalnche of extras.

Sargent Men won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious summer's afternoon. the speed of Karl Thorn's troubled the openers but it was wobbly line and length slow medium from Jamie Lane that set the wickets falling. Then Karl uprooted Mason's middle stump in dramatic fashion and Jamie followed suit next over bowling Cook,41-3

Hodson was next to go sweeping a dead straight slow'un from Lamb.He Looked mighty aggrieved as his front leg was along way forward but the ball was never going to hit above the middle of the stumps.

Seed and Walters added 40 before the latter miscued off Lamb, caught Lane.Lamb bowled Coy junior playing a suicidal shot and Williams accounted for John Garland. Seed who had hung around for a comparatively long time then chased a wide floater from Blumberg and gave a gentle catch to Daniel Drillsma-Milgram(should have been a 1st class cricketer with a name like that!) by which time Sargent's Men were in deep trouble,120-7.

In the event the tail did well adding some 60 runs.Henry Goodwin aged 12 was run out for 8,Jonathan Coy was finally caught behind off Williams for 25 leaving Skelton not out 14.So Nomads by now 11 on the field had 185 to win.

Lane and Bell set off at some pace thanks to some wild bowling from Coy jnr but then a careless leg side flip accounted for the Doc caught mid wicket off Skelton. Druv Tahir hit two powerful fours before giving Philip Hodson a straight forward catch at deep mid on also off Skelton.

Enter the grand old man Charlton Lamb 70 plus. After two comfortable twos GCL elected to pull a straight long hop, always a dangerous ploy at BOE and 'walked',lbw Skelton.

Karl Thorns joined Lane and these two set about the bowling with some appetite,Thorns, all power and Lane, much elegance. These two added 106.Thorns who reached his fist Nomads fifty with the winning four also hit two sixes one of which broke a window in the BOE Archive building opened 1908.

Both teams mustered a good number of post match imbibers on the club house terrace as the sun set vivid red in the distance and Vivek promised not to be two hours late again.

A very enjoyable Sunday outing.
