Awesome Victory

An awesome batting performance from a very strong Virgin line-up formed the basis of a resounding victory. On a not always reliable wicket, Jamie Lane and Jeremy Lascelles batted with some fluency, putting on 159 for the first wicket, before Lane was out for a fine 78. With Andy Stokes now coming to the wicket, runs continued to flow freely (this despite him being dropped second ball), and Lascelles went on to complete his 100 with a straight six, before coming down the wicket to their off-spinner once too often and being stumped. Enter James While, and mayhem ensued. With the declaration imminent, Stokes went on to his 50, being joined on this milestone by While hitting 26 off the final over. The innings was closed at 298-2 (While's failure to hit a 6 off the final ball meaning we fell 2 short of the 300!),and with all four batsmen who made it to the crease recording scores of over 50, which has to be a Virgin club record of some sort.

A fine, hostile and aggressive opening spell from debutant Jeremy Pang-Kessler (well supported by Max Keble-White) tore the heart out of the Frensham batting line-up, reducing them to 51-6. When his 8 over spell was completed (with fine figures of 4-22), the Frensham middle and late order staged a mini-revival, before the tail was polished off by Charles Fellows-Smith and Andy Smith, for a total of 212, leaving Virgin the overwhelming victors by a margin of 86 runs.

Incidentally, with a team comprising Pang-Kessler, Fellows-Smith, and Keble-White, have there ever been more double-barrelled names on one team sheet? Especially when James While also possesses a rarely-used double-barrel surname of his own. Answers on a postcard please.
