Late but victorious

A lot of Nomads arrived late for this fixture complaining of catastrophic traffic problems and some within shouting distance still circled around unable to find the right entrance. Ugh! Indeed one player failed to make at all. In the absence of the club skipper the match manager Keith Alexander won the toss and elected to bat on a fine sunny, yet still chilly, afternoonn.

Veteran Jamie Lane and teenage debutant Sachin Puri opened and made a steady and productive opening stand. The impetus was somewhat held back by Jamie sustaining an injury and requiring a runner. The bowling was not life threatening and yet El Nermer bowled three maidens in a mean spell of five overs for 8 runs. After 10 overs we posted 31 but at 20 and drinks the openers had accelerated to post 90, a good basis for a second half onslaught.

With the introduction of Mohammed and Rhony the innings changed and first the openers fell at 97 and 109. Keith Alexander hit a mighty six but he and Tom Brockton struggled to get on top of the bowling. Keith fell at 135 attempting another mighty swipe and was stumped. Charles Peerless still reeling from the after effects of Crouch End motoring phobia played on but not before producing one beautifull off drive to the farthest boundary and had to run three

Two produtive stands between Brockton and Hunt added a further 19 runs before Suraj came to wicket suffering from a heavy cold. Ill or not he immediately smote the bowling to all parts hitting two sixes in a bright 22. Jim Hunt was out off the last ball. Nomads had amassed a mere 185 falling somewhat short of the total we felt we needed, no onslaught at all until Suraj!

After a sumptuous tea Nomads opened with Suraj from the pavilion end and Brockton from the other. After a good start Crouch End lost two wickets to Suraj who shortly after had to leave early! The introduction of Oliver Croom-Johnson changed the momentum of the innings as the batsmen frequently played and missed and struggled to score. Croomers took two wickets but deserved more.
