Jemile inspires Nomads to victory

N omads performed admirably on Sunday to beat Oxford side Tiddington by the comfortable margin of 7 wickets. Tom Brockton won the toss and inserted the home side who were playing their last game of the year and after a successful campaign in their 1st season in the top division of the Oxfordshire Cherwell League had a number of 1st XI players in the side, including the familiar faces of both Pykett & Maule.

Nomads struck early courtesy of a fine spell of new ball bowling from Jemile Al-Darraji who swung the ball both ways at good pace. Oli Soames took two cracking catches at backward point and the safe hands of Steve Dummer accounted for a 3rd at 1st slip. Tiddington on the ropes after 18 overs at 60-4, all four wickets to Jemile.

Andrew Smith continued the good work with 3-40 from 15 accurate overs and Brockton also struck early in his spell on his way to 1-25 from 10 overs. Chesham leggie Chris Royals (1-19) kept the in form pair of Maule and Pykett in check but both savagely attacked Al-Darraji in his 2nd spell to spoil his previous exceptional figures.

A change in the bowling broke the final partnership with Soames trapping Maule LBW and Tiddington all out for appreciably under 200. Smith and Al-Darraji sharing 7 wickets in an impressive bowling performance for the Nomads

Soames and burly opener Steve Dummer strode out for the Nomads but Dummer was to have his off stump pegged back with a cracker of a delivery. Vaughan was bowling at good pace but Soames was looking a class act and joined by Tom Liversidge progressed the score forward positively.

Soames was dismissed in freakish circumstances, cue ending a long hop well to the right of the bowler who took an excellent one handed catch and when Liversidge was also dismissed Nomads were potentially in a spot of bother. However, Ryan Bone and Vic Kandampully (with watching girlfriend) took the game away from the home side and Nomads to victory. Bone (73*) smote a mighty 6 to win the match in spectacular fashion with a full ten overs remaining. The pair had batted with controlled aggression in the face of a deteriorating pitch and young enthusiastic fielders. Brockton, Al-Darraji and Smith were not even required !

After the game Tiddington laid on a delicious thai curry and the Nomads lingered long into the evening socialising with the friendly home side. Our thanks to Nick Pykett and his team for their continued hospitality.
