The Harpsden scribe has both bowling rather different in particular Adam Birkett bowls 6 1 12 1 and Ormiston bowling two more balls. The Harpsden scribe has the Nomads bowling short of 2 runs and the Harpsden bowling 6 runs short. Good job neither side is involved in micro surgery!

Nomads thrashed on debut visit to Harpsden

On Saturday we played somewhat abjectly at Harpsden, a new fixture for Nomads. With a couple arriving late skipper of the day Mike Plant elected to bat first on a rain sodden pitch. The Nomads innings started sluggishly as we lost two early wickets and never recovered despite a 40 from Rupert Style. Indeed for periods there was complete inertia. there was in theory a lot of batting with numbers 10 and 11 just as likely to open. So bogged down had been the innings that Nomads were forced to continue after tea, not that that helped much.Nomads were all out for 149 off 49.1 overs.Second top scorer Extras 35.

Nomads opened the bowling with Plant and part timer Chandler and both bowled poorly, gifting Harpsden's opener Watson, a series of boundary balls so Harpsden had a flying start to their innings.Steele accounted for the other opener and Howard Clay, Warwickshire over 60s player, had number 3 lbw. Clay bowled accurately, 6 overs 1-15.Watson moved untroubled to his century and young Birkett was 29 not out when the match finished,a resounding victory for Harpsden.

Harpsden have spent a fortune on relaying the ground and upgrading the pavilion and this was a new fixture so Nomads should have acquitted themselves better. Several senior Nomads spent some post match time enjoying the local 'Rebellion' bitter in the company of Harpsden players and hopefully implanted the impression that we were normally rather better than this.

Subsequently high decibel Ronnie Patel and the President enjoyed an hour or so beside the river Thames in Henley drinking more beer and wondering why so many in the team had rushed away home from such an idyllic spot as this.
