Nomads overwhelm Barnes on sunny Bank Holiday
Nomads were inserted yet posted a decent total after 45 overs. The mainstay of the innings was a robust 84 from debutant Victor Kandampully who was ably supported by a series of cameos at the other end from Andy Smith, David Steele and Sajjad Shawl. A useful stand between Robbie Blackburn and Conrad Chandler took us to 244 and Saurabh Wahi took us passed the 250 mark.
An excellent tea was nevertheless noteworthy for the absence of chairs in the Tearoom rather than its sumtuous content.
Debutant Chandler opened the bowling with Sajjad Shawl and both removed an opener cheaply. Craig and Roberts then added 57 and were looking threatening whereupon Conrad Chandler parried a hard hit shot in the covers from Roberts and while tumbling over, flicked the ball backhand to run out a backing up Craig with a direct hit. Roberts soon followed caught Sajjad off Andy Smith and wickets now fell steadily as the innings folded.
Robbie Blackburn picked up two, Brockers ran out oppo' skipper Tom Fahy and Andy Smith had number 11 stumped by Saurabh. Barnes were all out in 34.2 overs a long way short of their target.
Nomads repaired to the Barnes bar for serious imbibing where they were joined by supporters Brian Philipps and Iggy Chowdary. Earlier Nigel Hussey had watched us for some time while we were in the field and Robbie was granted a late pass from his girl friend.
