Nomads bowlers fail to force the win
Nomads were invited at short notice to play at HAC and the response was most heartening with eventually over twenty members wishing to play.
Nomads skipper won the toss and elected to bat. However progress was slow and despite an opening stand of 50 Nomads batsmen struggled as the flamboyant Sanjay was out cheaply and Wakers ran himself out. Vib Yadav and Hugo Morris injected some urgency adding some 86 runs before Hugo was stumped off veteran Neil Runkel and Walters went quickly the same way. Yadav having reached a fine fifty then decided to switch hit Runkel and was gently caught at backward cover. Gerard Soames succumbed cheaply to Shah so Nomads were mighty indebted to young Australian Harry Mansfield's undefeated on 22 to reach a respectable total of 218 off 44.2 overs. Neil Runkel himself once a Nomads in past decades cleaned up numbers 10 and 11 to secure a well deserved fifer.
After Tea Nomads were quickly among the wickets as the top order folded for 55. Top scorer for HAC Alauddin fell at 79 but despite the flight and guile of Messrs Fielding, Page and Marshall the tail hung on and the last wicket resolutely with stood Nomads bowling to achieve an honourable draw after 46 overs.
Nomads and some HAC lingered long at a nearby pub though some visitors went to the wrong pub and slipped home early.
A splendid match with fine weather in an outstanding location. The club sincerely hopes we will be invited again. Many thanks HAC.
