Vib Yadav century sees Nomads to victory

Nomads enjoyed a good day's cricket with the magnificent setting of the ground and the excellent hospitality of the Stowe Templars. Nomads had suffered some late withdrawals so we were please tht Sean Reilly and suraj Vithlani stepped into the breach at short notice especially Suraj who had just driven from Rome with wife and two baby twins.

Templars won the toss and batted first. At 11.45 am Nomads opened with Vib Yadav from the school end and Ben Smith from the other. Vib suffered with his radar somewhat while Ben although bowling some pearlers had trouble ith his length. Wilson took full advantage of anything wayward. Bill Johnson replaced Ben Smith and quickly settled into a mean spell. He was rewarded with the wickets of both openers, Wilson on 49 miscued a slogsweep straight to the late arriving Suraj at backward square leg,74-1 off 15.1. Twenty minutes later Johnson bowled Thompson for an obdurate 20,87-2 off 20 overs. Marcus Budgen had replaced Vib and was punished heavily in his first over but then had Bowman smartly stumped by Raymond Lashwayo. Lunch was taken at 116-3 off 26 overs.

Nomads resumed after a sumptuous lunch with Olly Smith and veteran Chris Page. Olly struck first, bowling Patel for 24,152-4,34.1 overs. Then Page took two wickets via good catches from Olly Smith and Suraj Vithlani who had replaced Olly bowled Pumfrey for 37,204-7,44.1. Page would have been further rewarded but for several dropped catches, three by young Marcus Budgen. Two deft stumpings by Raymond off Suraj's bowling brought the innings to a close at 236 off 49.2 overs.

Bill Johnson and Sean Reilly opened the batting for Nomads and after a couple of boundaries were both bowled by Templars' quickie Pye, 22-1.4.2 overs.  Vib Yadav and Andrew Smith had taken the score along to 45 off 10.2 when Vib ran out Smith,"yes,no,sorry" and tea was taken.

Suraj Vithlani joined Vib and these two added  107 runs before Suraj mishit and was caught by Wilson off the returning Pye. Vib Yadav continued in commanding form but at the other end  silly shots accounted for Lashwayo and Budgen while Olly Smith was bowled.  Ben Smith finished the match with a fine straight drive passed the bowler for four.  Vib Yadav finished on 133, 22 fours.

The local hostelry in Chackmore now closes on Mondays so we followed the Templars to a The Red Lion on the green in the village of Evenley for several libations  and a smaller group dined at a Curry House in Brackley entertained by a waiter who should be a stand up comedian.

Thank you Templars for a splendid day.
