                                 Teenagers so nearly save match

Templars played Chorley Wood's 'overseas', ahuge mountain of a Kiwi with a plank for a bat and he murdered the otherwise rather good bowling of Thorns and Cowley. Eventually after lunch Cowley dismissed Vivian and Blumberg trapped McCade lbw. These were Nomads only successes with the ball so Templars declared on a formidable 317-2 leaving a lot of overs to bowl out Nomads.

Jeremy Lascelles fell early  but Thorns and Andrew Smith replied in an entertaining and assured style so it was unfortunate that Thorns was 'adjudged' lbw when looking in such good form. The middle order then collapsed so when Andrew Smith departed  for a good fifty Nomads were 100-7 facing imminent defeat. However this brought together two young teenagers, diminutive Jaipur Colt Amar Chand and the much taller but younger Ollie Smith.

These two battled it out against everything Templars could bowl at them adding 94 runs but even more valuably used up most of the remaining overs. Eventually when they both out in successive overs all the Templars clapped them back to the Pavilion as also did the umpires.

With very little more play left the very young Ben Smith was defending stoutly with an impenetrable Michael Blumberg at the other end, the possibility of a draw was a reality. Then the bowler fed up with Blumberg's blocking tossed up a high full toss and  in attempting to smash it for four to the clubhouse Blumberg missed and was hit high on the left thigh. Up went umpire Terry Wilkins' finger with barely an appeal from the Templars.

Nomads had lost by a wide margin and Terry Wilkins and wife were soon at the Queen's Head Chackmore enjoying their dinner. Doubtless the two teenagers will remember their 'heroic' stand for many a year! We will and, in particular, so will the President that decision of Terry Wilkins. "Plumb out asserted Terry at the Pub over his dinner" ...and a decade later Ed McCade still complains he was deprived of a century.
