"I will not risk my 1st XI opening bowlers on the wet runups" declared the oppo skipper so match abandoned

Some superb bowling by James While-seam and Srikanth-spin on a sporting track reduced Northwood to 126 all out. Sadly not long after the Nomads innings began rain stopped play and despite a long dry evening the opposition skipper would not resume play on the grounds that he would not risk his 1st eleven opening bowlers on and  over the damp run ups

The suggestion that he bowl his spinners or use short run ups fell on deaf ears and so despite the umpires declaring the ground/pitch 'safe' for play the match was abandoned as a draw. All of which was pretty 'naff'.

A late start was made due to heavy overnight rain and there was some confusion it appeared about the morning start. Nevertheless a superb lunch was enjoyed and a long session at the bar ensued.

Match manager and Northwood member Ranjit Latchman had assembled a strong Nomads side  so much so he sat the match out himself.

Nomads played Northwood since before World War one as recorded in the Cricket magazine of the time to be found in the MCC Museum Library at Lord's.
