Records tumble as Nomads humble Marlow Park CC

Nomads recorded another substantial victory during the 2015 season, this time against Marlow Park CC at the pretty setting of Higginson Park. With the Henley Regatta in full flow just a few miles away and under blue skies it was something of a surprise when Marlow Park skipper and ex-OMT's cricketer Sohan Modi won the toss and elected to field.

Nomads skipper Tom Brockton and the fit again Jemile Al-Darraji opened up for the visitors and from the off it was clear that the wicket was an absolute road as Brockton hit two boundaries in the first over of the match. Al-Darraji was also into his stride with a gorgeous on-drive and the pair added a century partnership in just the 18th over.

The home side seemed to have no answer to the Nomads batsmen and only off-spinner Stephens recorded vaguely impressive figures in the circumstances. Brockton had now reached his 17th Nomads century and when Al-Darraji was comically dismissed (dropping the bat which harmlessly rolled onto the leg stump) the pair had added a mammoth 241 stand for the opening wicket.

Although Andy Hill didnt last long, bowled trying an audacious slog sweep, Robbie Blackburn (promoted up the order by VC Ross Ormiston) did a fantastic job plundering 55 in just 39 balls and accompanying Brockton to his 3rd Nomads 150. With overs running out the pair took the attack to the Marlow Park side and with 7 players on the boundary there were plenty of 2's and 3's when boundaries were not on offer. Blackburn also cleared the ground on two occasions lofting powerfully struck 6's over extra cover and long on.

Brockton surpassed the previous highest Nomads score from Tim Bourke who hit 176* vs Indian Gymkhana in 1986 in the final over of the 45 to end on 182* with exactly 100 runs in boundaries. The pair had added 93 in just 11 overs and left Nomads on a monumental 343-2 from their 45 overs. The home side would need to score at just over 7.5 runs per over to overhaul this highly daunting total.

After a wonderful tea in the warm afternoon sunshine Blackburn and Sajjad Shawl tore in with the new ball and in the blink of an eye Marlow Park were 37-3 and despite some resistance from Hanan who biffed 24 before being bamboozed by a Blackburn slower ball, the home side were never up with the rate. Shawl and Blackburn both bowled solidly taking two wickets a-piece.
The introduction of old stager Chris Page wreaked further havoc and two impressive catches from Blackburn & Al-Darraji helped him to 2-44 from 9 accurate overs. With the home side in all sorts of trouble Ross Ormiston supplied the coup de grasse taking three wickets with his leggies, one courtesy of a sharp catch from Page at mid-wicket to end the innings of the Marlow Park skipper Modi for 40. With the Marlow Park no11 absent after sustaining a shoulder injury while fielding Nomads had run out winners by 202 runs, and had bowled the home side out for just 141 with 12 overs of their 45 remaining.

Another crushing victory for the Nomads whose recent wins have come via 248 runs, 6, 2 & 7 wickets. The side lingered long into the evening, drinking back the fixture after a relatively early finish. Skipper Brockton bought a couple of jugs of the local Marlow Ale to celebrate his achievement of passing Tim Bourke's previous highest score for the club.
